Baddeck to Cheticamp

Finally!  After several gloomy days we awakened to gorgeous sunny weather.  Honestly, I was OK with the clouds and little bit of rain while we were in Baddeck because we were able to work around it and it really didn't affect what we saw or did.  But I was hoping beyond hope that our days for the Cabot Trail would be good and voila - sun!  We bid goodbye to our cute little cottage which provided nice space for the last few days.  It was small, but had a living room, bedroom, bath, and small kitchenette.  Very much appreciated having a bit of our own space.  Here is the cottage and the view:

We then went down to the nice Baddeck waterfront to get some pics that were NOT in clouds and rain!

And of course there was a statue of Alexander Graham Bell and his beloved Mabel.

After grabbing a couple of subs to eat while on the road, we headed out taking a longer route to Cheticamp, which took us through the town of Inverness where we took some pics of the pretty waterfront.

Then on toward the Cabot Trail.  We stopped at the information center at Margaree and got some info on some local roads from the always nice folks working these information centers.  There were picnic tables there, so we also chowed down.  Then took a local loop of road thru the Margaree Valley which was quite nice.  I however lost the battle of direction... I'm usually good with maps but hand drawn maps with no scale... and dirt roads... not so much.  I hate it when Bill is right about what direction we should go but he was right.  But we did see these gorgeous sunflowers....

They went on forever!  Then on to the Cabot Trail and up to Cheticamp, which is a very cute town.

We stopped to check out Le Trois Pignons, a cultural museum that contains the things collected by one woman and the incredible hooked rugs made by Elizabeth LeFort who was a renowned rug hooker.  They had women doing some hooking but I was so amazed by what they were doing I forgot to take pictures!  Here are a few of the rugs on display.  I never thought of hooked rugs as art!

Dinner next door to our hotel at The Happy Clam and we are ready for sunset and an early night as we plan to hit the Skyline Trail tomorrow in Cape Breton Highlands National Park.  We are right on the ocean, so we will keep the window cracked and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves.  And the sun sets on another gorgeous day...
