Baddeck - Uisge Falls, Bell Museum, and Ceilidh

The morning was foggy and cloudy with rain predicted to start in the afternoon.  So we moved around our plans to get in a hike to Uisge Falls before the rain started.  It's about 15 min from where we were staying and down a 4 km mostly well maintained dirt road.  The hike took us about an hour and 15 minutes total, and it was a lovely walk in the woods.  We were surrounded by ferns, evergreens, some changing colors, and trees apparently growing out of rocks!  The trail follows the North Branch River and the prize at the end is a 50 foot waterfall that was just gorgeous!

Signs of fall!

The entire falls

Zoomed in on the top of the falls.

As we were walking back, a number of birds ran across the trail in front of us.  We believe they may have been grouse?   We accomplished our goal of getting the hike in without getting rained on.  Next, lunch then on to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site.  Very interesting story of the many things Bell did.  He had a summer home here in Baddeck, and it was here that he flew the first flight in Canada in the Silver Dart.  Below is a reproduction.

One of the other things he developed - among MANY things besides the telephone - was a hydrofoil.

We had been told about a ceilidh (traditional music) at a local church which was very popular.  They show up at 5 to sell tickets for 7:30.  So we showed up before 5 and I was the second person in line.  Good thing because they had sold all but 10 tickets before they even opened!  It's a fancy system - you give them your $10 per person, they give you a ticket to prove you paid and a post it note and a piece of tape.  You write your name on it and stick it on your chair and that reserves your spot!  We really enjoyed the music!  It was a toe tapping night!!
