We LOVED our stay in Antigonish (which
is learned is pronounced Antie – gonish (opposite of uncle-gonish),
accent first sylable. The Antigonish Evergreen Inn where we stayed
was so cute, and it had thought of everything! So many little extras
like coasters, a ring holder, a hook by the shower to hang your
towel, slippers and housecoats, little things of bandaids and I could
go on and on. We headed to the office for breakfast where we met the
two very nice owners who have owned it for the past 3 years. She
gets up at 5 am daily to make homemade scones for the breakfast!!
Then we headed pointed the Prius toward Advocate Harbour, our next
destination. Along the way we passed thru Truro, and I had read
about a park there – Victoria Park – that had a waterfall or two
so we decided to stop and check that out along the way. It was a
very nice park with kids playing on playground equipment, people
riding bikes, and others walking dogs. An easy walk to the
waterfalls, which were quite low on water but still pretty. And the
walk, next to a babbling brook, was a great way to stretch our legs.
Next we stopped at Five Islands
Provincial Park. We thought the lighthouse was there, but it was a
bit further down the road. The beach and the scenery here was
beautiful.
We grabbed some lunch and enjoyed the
scenic drive to Advocate Harbour and found our next accomodations.
It is the Reid's Tourist Home which is on a working farm. I went to
the office and found a note on the door directing us to room 4, which
was open and waiting for us. Just as we were moving our stuff in to
the room the owner drove up and said his wife wanted to upgrade us as
we were here to celbrate Bill's birthday. We loaded our stuff back
in the car and came back down the road just a bit to the lower level
of a house. It was GORGEOUS! It had a full kitchen, a nice comfy
couch, a king sized bed and a nice big bathroom! That was so nice of
them, and a really sweet surprise upgrade!
Since I started researching this trip
I've wanted to eat at a restaurant – one of the best in Nova Scotia
– that is located in this little town. Wild Caraway was not a
disappointment. We were first brought a treat from the chef – a
caraway roll and a “shot” of soup for each of us. I had a
mushroom soup and Bill was brought a lobster bisque. Mmmmm.... then
we shared an appetizer of tempura fried green beans and each had an
entree of scallops with some peas and gnochi and arugala. Again,
delish. For dessert Bill had a chocolated pear and I had a sticky
caramel pudding. I rarely order dessert and NEVER finish them. But
I did this one! It was a lovely meal.
And thus ended another great day in Nova Scotia....
